DOLL-DRESS

THE FULL NINE YARDS The main dress of India is saree. It has nine yards length. The Indian sarees are famous all over the world. Indian sarees are found in verity of clothes. MAHESHWARI SAREE Maheshwari saree date back 1500 years. Stuffed out in the middle ages and revived by Maharani Ahilya Bai in the 18th century. Maheshwar spun some of the finest cotton sarees during this period. But post independence, it died out again, and was revived by the surviving ruler, Sreemant Maharajkumar Shivajirao 'Richard' Holkar and his wife Sally in the 70's. They conceived Rehwa, a non profit organization to resuscitate the dying craft. BENARASI The benarasi saree, done in rich zari, zardosi and jaamdani on brocades, is central to Indian weddings. The city traces its textile lineage to Emperor Akbar. When Muslim clerics banned the use of human and animal motifs on the brocade weaves, the looms reconfigured to create elaborate floral patterns that pitched the city centerstage on the textile map. KOTA DORIA Rao Kishore Singh, a Rajput general lin the Mughal army, brought Kota from Mysore in the 17th century. Kota is not just a cotton textile with a net like weave: it is of two types-a pure cotton fabaric and atahe fine doria silk embellished with heavy brocade work. Kota-Doria derives its name from the fusion of Kota and Doria yarns. IKKAT The ikkat or ikat from the villages of south Orissa uses a dyeing process similar to the tie and dye technique of Rajasthan, but with ;a difference. Only one of the two, either the warp oar the weft, is dyed with natural colors.
